Sugar Maple Trailside Inn, a bed and breakfast near Smith College, is located in the noted community of Northampton, MA, or more specifically, Florence, a village within Northampton. As for directions, we are located right off of Route 9, approximately 2 miles west of Smith College and downtown Northampton. In fact, we are the closest bed & breakfast to Smith College--the largest women's college in the U.S.
The building itself is a recently restored 1865 Colonial home with Italianate characteristics that in 2003 was awarded the City of Northampton's Historic Preservation Award. The restoration and the interesting stories behind it were the subject of a segment on House & Garden Television’s (HGTV) acclaimed series, RESTORE AMERICA in November of 2003.
Renovated to offer modern comforts, our two air-conditioned GUEST ROOMS feature, private bathrooms with showers, quiet surroundings, antique furnishings, large closets, and pleasant views of the adjacent rail trail. We even have an easy to read BLUEPRINT OF THE LAYOUT of the house to ensure our house fits your needs. For the discerning business traveler, we feature hi-speed wireless internet connections free of charge--and antique secretary or old railroad section house writing table. Pricing is reasonable and competitive with rates between $80 and $120 a night. View our real-time, up to date ONLINE CALENDAR to access information about room availability, tour our rooms or to just BOOK YOURSELF IN, in an easy and streamlined way.

For breakfast, we serve an expanded continental breakfast with a choice of various fresh juices, bagels, muffins, scones and a choice of yogurts and seasonal fruit. Of course, bottom-less piping hot coffee and various herbal teas are always available.
The inn also boasts one of the region's largest collections of antique railroad maps, documents, and just plain books on the history of the railroads in the northeast. Peruse our library and relax on our cozy 3-season porch or take a bike ride on the rail-trail next to the inn. We now have a couple of great Raleigh Retro-Cruiser Bikes or you to try out. They'll remind you of the bikes you used to have as a kid and how much you used to love to ride a bike.
One of the more interesting things that has happened to us this past year was the letter from Yankee Magazine alerting us to the fact that they were featuring us in their "Best of New England"--70th Anniversary Issue. Addtionally, Bed & Breakfast America--a national B&B glossy magazine--featured us in their Spring 2006 issue in a four page article. Click here to see that article. |
